Pirelli is close to deal to sell cable unit to Goldman Fund

Pirelli and Company S.p.A. is to divest its cable making unit to a Goldman Sachs Group Inc. investment fund for approximately $1.53 billion, including debt. The telecommunications-cable unit decreased its net loss to 18 million Euro from 56 million Euro, while revenue rose to 430 million Euro from 427 million Euro in 2004.
