The UK pizza and pasta restaurant market increased from 608 million pounds sterling in 1992 to an estimated 822 million pounds sterling in 1997. Pasta has increased its share of the market from 5% in 1993 to 11% in 1997. Expenditure on pasta rose from 33 million pounds sterling in 1993 to 89 million pounds sterling in 1997. The pizza market rose to 733 million pounds sterling in 1997 from 626 million pounds sterling in 1993. The total pizza and pasta restaurant market is expected to reach 1023 million pounds sterling by 2002.

Firms should take precautions within their staff hiring procedures to minimize the danger of exposing themselves to employee fraud. These precautions are particularly important for more senior positions where employees have greater access to the firm's resources. Employers should check employment records carefully and investigate employment breaks or a succession of short postings. Verbal contact with referees can be revealing. Security companies, including Capitol Group, may also be able to uncover information.
