Delivering global leaders
Article Abstract:
The Global Leadership Programme is a five-week training program for executives that costs $30,000 per person and requires a $25,000 corporate sponsorship fee. The program is an action-based course involving outdoor courses to teach cooperation and fact finding missions. Participation in the program is limited to the 31 multinationals that belong to the Global Leadership Programme Consortium, including IBM, Exxon, and Sony. The course, developed by University of Michigan organizational behavior professor Noel Tichy, Insead professor Michael Brimm, and Hitotsubashi University Professor Hirotaka Takeuchi, tries to teach executives how to form a cross-cultural team that minimizes prejudices and prejudgments and that facilitates a truly global view and culture.

A new way to identify hidden executive talent
Article Abstract:
Deregulation of bus service industries in Great Britain caused the Thatcher government to devise a plan for identifying the most entrepreneurial managers within the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive in order to promote from this group the individuals capable of managing effectively following the change to competitive marketing. The Thatcher manager assessment program, developed with the assistance of management consultants in London, is described. A combination of psychological testing and manager interviewing was used, the testing to reveal 'hidden' talents, and the interviews to discern the managers' self-perception of their abilities.
