Posco profit defies fall in exports

Pohang Iron & Steel Co. (Posco) posted more than 500 million euros in provisional net profits for the first-half of 1999. The South Korean steel manufacturer posted the net profits as it was engaged in a corporate restructuring and as it faces a fall in steel prices around the world. Posco, the largest steel maker in the world, posted 684 billion won (559.1 million) in provisional net profits for the first six months of 1999.
