Power struggle hobbles Electricite de France
Article Abstract:
Electricite de France (EDF) is left looking for a strategy to ward off competition due to a power struggle between its top two executives, Chairman Edmond Alphandery and Director General Pierre Daures. The state-owned utility will most likely remove the two officers and bring in Francois Roussely, currently the defense minister's chief of staff, to replace Alphandery. But a successor of Alphandery is faced with two questions: how should EDF exploit its resources to venture into other businesses and how can the group fight aggressive competition posed by European and US utilities as competition is allowed in february 1999.
