PowerGen plans to take charge

PowerGen PLC will assume a charge of 60 million pound sterling ($96.8 million) after the company sells off two power stations. PowerGen also stated that its profits for the nine months ending on January 3, 1999 were hurt by competition and moderate weather. The company's pretax profits dropped 22% to 292 million pound sterling in the period. PowerGen's also said that its market share of the wholesale electricity industry will dropped to 14% from 18%.
