The crying game
Article Abstract:
The Taiwanese government is concerned about the US government's change in policies regarding relations with China, after US president Bill Clinton visited China in the summer of 1998. Japan, Taiwan and India have been stung by remarks made by Clinton, and his over friendly attitude towards China's president Jiang Zemin, which resulted in Clinton backing China's policy of no support for Taiwanese independence, although Taiwan had been promised US support on many previous occasions. India is concerned about the build up of nuclear arms in China.

Article Abstract:
Taiwanese Prime Minister Lien Chan has successfully weathered three days of intense questioning during a parliamentary confirmation hearing held in Taiwan.
