Processed foods, confectionery and bakery products in Belgium
Article Abstract:
Processed food, confectionery and bakery product sales in Belgium are expected to see only limited growth in 1997 and 1998 according to a survey. Turnover in the food industry grew slightly in the first half of 1996, with fruit and vegetable preserves, meat preserves and pasta all growth sectors, although the dairy and sugar industries saw falls. The survey breaks the industry down into sectors, including margarine, beef and meat products, chocolate confectionery, biscuits, cheese and soups and gives figures for production, imports, exports, apparent consumption, and private consumption for the years 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995.

Processed foods, confectionery and bakery products in Belgium
Article Abstract:
Private consumption of food products in Belgium reached 725 billion Belgian francs in 1996, according to the National Bank. Oils and fats, meat preserves, sugar, preserved fish and crustaceans and cocoa and chocolate were the best performing sectors in the processed foods industry. The dairy industry saw disappointing performance in 1996, partly due to lack of imaginative marketing. The meat industry performed well, and exports expanded, although imports also continued to grow. Sugar confectionery consumption expanded, and output of biscuits and related products increased.

Processed foods, confectionery and bakery products in Germany
Article Abstract:
The German food industry had a total output of 217.7 billion German marks in 1994, up 1% from 1993, although growth was due mostly to increased export demand. Price pressure caused food sales to remain static, although volume increased slightly. Food industry production is not expected to increase during 1995. Confectionery sales for the year fell some 3% to 25 billion German marks, with output up 2% to about 20 billion German marks. A detailed analysis of the German food industry is presented.
