Article Abstract:
The market for processed foods in France is expected to benefit from the improved prospects for the economy in 1997 and 1998, according to a survey. Processed vegetable production rose by 5% in 1995, with green beans the leading processed vegetable, and overall output for processed fruit remained stable. The survey is broken down into sectors including canned prepared meals, fish products, sauces, dairy products and pet foods and gives figures for production, exports, imports, household expenditure, for 1995 and 1996. It look at confectionery and bakery products in some detail.

Processed vegetable production in France rose by 5% in 1996, with green beans the most important processed vegetable. Output of processed fruit expanded, and preserved meat products output increased by 6%, with cooked hams representing 22% of output. Fish product production remained stable, and condiments and sauces output rose 9%. Output of liquid milk fell by just under 2%. Sugar confectionery and chocolate products production increased by just 1% in 1996, and total output of biscuits and relating bakery products increased by 5%
