Profits at European plane makers soar

The aerospace industry in Europe is experiencing its highest profitability level in decades following a long period of restructuring. European civilian and military contractors posted 4.1 billion euros in operating profits for the 1998 year. This was based on 2.2 billion euros in sales. This represented a 6.6% sales return and a 4.2% from 1997. The industry was greatly helped by strong US sales.

BAe profit matched expectations in half
Article Abstract:
British Aerospace PLC (BAe) reported that its results for the first-half of 1999 reached analysts' expectations. BAe posted 358 milion pound sterling (555 million euros) for the period. This represented an improvement of 2.6% over the same period in 1998. Revenues fell to 4.1 billion pound sterling. This was a 3.6% decline.

Airbus, in a risky bet, to raise production of A320
Article Abstract:
Airbus S.A.S. plans to increase production of its A320 jetliners in order to boost sales. The extra money generated would help pay to fix production problems with the A380 aircraft , and would also pay for the design of the proposed A350 XWB.
