Profits showdown

Holding company AtCo has reported an increase in profits to $660 million in fiscal 1999 compared to losses of $140.5 million in 1997. The profits is expected to help its Argentina-based publisher unit, Editorial Atlantida, recover from its economic decline. Atco announced plans to support Atlantida's plan to expand its print business, which includes the launching of showbusiness and celebrity magazine titled Show On.

GE delivers double-digit profit growth
Article Abstract:
General Electric Co. (GE) posted an improvement of 16% in its net income for the third-quarter of 1999. GE posted $2.65 billion (2.5 billion euros) during the quarter. During the same period in 1998, GE posted $2.28 billion. The company's 80 cents per share earnings were one cent higher than what analysts had predicted. GE's revenues reached $27.2 billion for the period. This was a 13% increase over 1998.
