Progress with single-item lot-sizing
Article Abstract:
The historical development of solutions to the single-item, uncapacitated lot-sizing problem (ULS) since 1958 is discussed. The research literature is divided into three time periods, namely, 1958-1975, 1975-1990 and 1990 to present work. It is shown that for the period 1990-present, changes to the original dynamic programming algorithm have enabled its solution in O(n log n) time and in O(n) through the incorporation of a Wagner-Whitin cost structure.

Optimal lot streaming for multiple products in a two-machine flow shop
Article Abstract:
The optimal lot streaming problem is considered as a two-machine flow shop with job setup times and sublot transfer times. Independent transfer lot sizing problems are obtained for each job when production lots are not preempted. On the other hand, closed-form optimal solutions are obtained for continuous transfer lot sizes. Examples are used to illustrate each of the procedures.
