The temporary or permanent successor to Yeltsin is in question as the Russian president has to rest in a hospital before and after a quadruple bypass operation. Yeltsin has not yet ceded powers to Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin. Election possibilities and Russia's chances without Yelttsin are discussed.
