Publics prefer in-house advice
Article Abstract:
The Old English Pub Company chose to use its own team of advisers for its 63 million pounds sterling worth of acquisition deals during 1998. The management prefer to be closely involved in transactions and employ their own specialist expertise within the company. Even the largest companies often use in-house teams for deals unless they are very costly. A UK survey of the ten companies which carried out the most deals in 1998, found they used their own advisers to reduce costs. Only 27 transactions out of 203 deals made in 1998, by the top ten public firms, involved outside advisers.
