Enough is enough
Article Abstract:
The World Trade Organization (WTO) lacks a director general. Most member countries support former New Zealnd prime minister, Mike Moore, as the new leader, though some support Supachai Panitchpakdi from Thailand. Lack of a leader is creating problems for the planned WTO summit in Nov 1999, and is leading to divisions between the US and Asian countries as well as hampering agreement on new areas for liberalization. A compromise candidate could be chosen, and the Chilean former minister, Jose Miguel Insulza, is a possibility.
