Pushing poultry on Koreans
Article Abstract:
Halim & Co., the biggest poultry in Korea, is attempting to convert Koreans from being pork lovers to chicken lovers by adding chicken parts to the company's whole chicken products. Company President Kim Hong Kuk is wagering that handiness of precut nuggets and drumsticks will draw consumers who lack the time and the patience to cook. As part of the strategy to target pork lovers, the company has been increasing production at its $8.1-million plant in Iksan, South Korea, and expanding its distribution channel with department stores. Halim is facing a tough challenge ahead as most South Koreans favor pork and red meat to chicken because of tradition and superstition.

As Koreans puzzle out democracy, the unfettered-media piece is missing
Article Abstract:
South Korea's progress towards democracy continues to be undermined by the lack of press freedom. Journalists and academics say that some officials manage to prevent the media from airing controversial political issues. A US State Dept. human rights report also states that the government still has indirect control of the media while reporters and editors avoid overly criticizing the government to advance their careers.

Pushing poultry on Koreans
Article Abstract:
South Korea-based Halim & Co President Kim Hong Kuk is adding chicken parts such as precut nuggets and drumsticks to the firm's established brand of fresh, whole birds. The company has been growing output at Halim's new processing plant and boosting the number of its distribution network with department stores. The company's long term problem is that most South Koreans prefer pork and red meat over chicken.
