Russian president Vladimir Putin is determined to make Russia a powerful influence in East Asia through foreign policies that rely on pragmatism, self-confidence and engagement. However, Russia's As ian expansion is expected to face difficulty d ue to its dependency on volatile energy prices and its domestic policies. Forecasts for Russian politics and economy are also suplied.

Not so easy

The meeting at New York between the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Pakistani President General Parvez Musharraf was successful. However this was on neutral ground. The question that is to be raised is whether the peace will have any meaning once they go back home.
