Fatal error: ignorance over Aids hampers countermeasures
Article Abstract:
Widespread ignorance about Aids and government apathy have resulted in spread of the disease in Japan. In Jan-Oct 1992, new HIV carriers numbered 424, with the highest increase among foreign women. The government has, therefore, allocated 10.3 billion yen for Aids education, surveillance and treatment in the 1993 budget. It has also sponsored and funded an Aids Prevention Foundation to coordinate a national awareness campaign. However, the government still needs to prevent the spread of Aids, and encourage the acceptance of Aids victims.

Putting money to work: overdue reforms are helping to provide needed funds
Article Abstract:
Capital markets in Asia have started keeping pace with the rest of the continent's sectors toward the ultimate goal of economic development. Interest rates have to be maintained at a steady level. Governments need to foster the use of local currency bonds. Investors need to diversify from equities into bonds.
