Quad-tiltorotor proposal unveiled
Article Abstract:
Bell Helicopter plans to develop a quad-tiltrotor version of the V-22 Osprey to satisfy future Joint Transport Rotorcraft requirement and as a replacement for existing tactical transport aircraft. The company intends to combine two sets of V-22 wings and power-packs with a new fuselage based on the Lockheed Martin C-130-30 transport. The aircraft is envisioned to have a vertical take-off gross weight of about 45,500 kg and short take-off gross weight of more than 63,500 kg.

New BURRO contract
Article Abstract:
Kaman Aerospace Corp has received a $2.7-million contract from the US Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory for the further development of the K- Max remote-piloted helicopter. The new contract is a follow-on to the original $4.2-million contract awarded in Jul 1999, under the Corps' Broad-area Unmanned Responsive Resupply Operations concept. The K-Max helicopter could eventually be utilized as an unmanned aerial resupply vehicle.

CH-60s at Patuxent River
Article Abstract:
Sikorsky Aircraft Div will provide a total of four CH-60S helicopters to the US Navy testing facility at Patuxent River, MD, by the end of Jul 2000. The helicopters, the first of which has already been delivered in May 2000, is being evaluated as a possible replacement utility aircraft for vertical replenishment operations. A total of 237 Sikorsky CH-60S, beginning with 14 units in 2002, is required by the US Navy.
