UK awards trimaran demonstrator contract
Article Abstract:
Vosper Thornycroft has received a 13 million pound-sterling ($21.3 million) contract to build a 90m trimaran demonstrator for the UK Royal Navy's Future Escort (FE) program. The vessel, which will be built using funding from the Defense Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), will demonstrate the feasibility of a trimaran hullform for the FE. The RV Triton demonstrator will be used to prove that the trimaran hullform design would result in reduce life-cycle and procurement cost, better safekeeping, improved survivability and a more flexible layout and signature reduction for the FE. The FE is designed to replace the current Type 23 frigate beyond 2010.
