Rapid reports explored for cruise strikes
Article Abstract:
Hunting Engineering, through a joint development effort with the UK Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA), has presented the 'Beady Eye' conceptual battle damage indication (BDI) device. The device, which is the result of a joint research aimed reducing battle-damage assessment elapsed time to one hour or less under the Ministry of Defence applied research program, is deployable from a Tomahawk or CASOM missile near the target at an altitude of several hundred meters. Beady Eye is equipped with an integral IR camera, a low-bandwidth emitter as well as two drogue chutes for providing imagery of targets hit by a cruise missile. Additional communications path and systems are being eyed for the BID to allow mission planners determine the function and operation of a missile and its intelligent fuze.
