Raytheon Co's $9.5-million bid for Hughes seems likely to go through, which would make the consolidation of the US defense industry almost complete. The probable loser in the bidding battle, Northrop Grumman, will be hard pressed to compete against Raytheon, Lockheed Martin and Boeing-McDonnell Douglas.
