The venture partners in PerfecTV!, Japan's first digital satellite TV service, hope it will be as popular as US services, and not flop like the new German system. PerfecTV! and other entries will present better programs than are currently available in Japan, using a standardized set-top box.

The Rupert who hasn't made money from television

Rupert sold his holdings in pay-TV company NetHold to Canal+ for $1.8 billion in Sep 1995. While some observers called the move a victory for Rupert, others believed that Rupert pulled out because of the intense competition and risk in the television industry.
