As good as it gets
Article Abstract:
Edinburgh, Scotland, is the location of an annual festival which started after the 1939-1945 war. The festival includes plays, books, TV, motions pictures and music. The official festival has 170 performances, and there are also some 16,000 performances in the Fringe festival. The official festival is selective and planned, with high standards. The success of the official festival affects the festival as a whole, while the Fringe is full of surprises and is more spontaneous.

The irresistible rise of Bertolt Brecht
Article Abstract:
Bertolt Brecht was a playwright who died in 1956 and whose works include 'Threepenny Opera', and 'Mother Courage'. British theatergoers have tended not to be enthusiastic about Brecht, yet he has been a major influence on the theater, especially during the 1960s. Critics argue that the emotional impact of Brecht's work is overlaid by the theory. His estate has had some control over how the work should be performed, and this has eased, with adaptations being permitted.
