Rebuilding: construction in Japan

The Japanese government is trying to stimulate growth in the construction industry, which accounts for 17% of the country's gross domestic product. In the private sector, potential home-buyers are being wooed. Housing starts have been growing 7-8% since Nov 1995.

A sip of something good: shops in inner cities
Article Abstract:
Inner city residents, most poor, pay 8.8% more for foods than suburbanites because there are few supermarkets in city centers. Zoning laws, high rents, high labor prices and high crime prevent stores from opening in cities.
