Regional routes expand
Article Abstract:
Mediterranean airports are traditionally dependent on tourists for a significant bulk of their traffic, but some are also luring business travelers. The French airports of Nice and Marseille and the Spanish airport of Barcelona attest to that. Nice and Marseille are rivals, although it appears that Nice has the upper hand, having earned the reputation of France's busiest airport outside Paris. Nice handled more than 7.35 million passengers in 1997 and plans to invest 2.5 billion French francs over the next ten years to cope with an expected traffic of 11 million in 2008. Marseille has also been spending on expansion of its terminal facilities, which will be completed by May 1998.
