Bayerische Hypo- und Vereinsbank (HVB) was the provider and arranger of the senior acquisition debt facilities when deep-frozen prepared meals producer Hofmann-Menu-Gruppe was purchased by funds advised by Schroders & Partner Beteiligungsberatung at the end of 1996. Funds advised by Pricoa Private Capital Partners structured and provided the mezzanine. Pricoa assumed the position of majority shareholder when Schroders sought to exit its investment in early 1999. HVB was approached to arrange and provide the Dm120 million acquisition facilities for Pricoa.

The German merger and acquisition advisory sector is led by Goldman Sachs, which has a number of leading companies among its clients. However, other US banks will begin to challenge Goldman Sachs' leading position in the foreseeable future. CSFB has revived its presence in Germany since the beginning of 1998, and now has 60 investment bankers. Merrill Lynch now has 28 staff working on merger and acquisition deals in Germany, and this number is set to rise to 60 by the beginning of 2001.
