Bridesmaid no more: Kim Dae Jung has his best shot at the presidency
Article Abstract:
Kim Dae Jung has contested each South Korean election since 1971, but lost each time, however in the run up to the presidential elections in December, his poll numbers are higher than they have ever been. The ruling party has been affected by scandals and the malaise of the economy, and Kim Dae Jung is promoting his message in areas where President Kim Young Sam's New Korea Party is vulnerable. He has toned down his rhetoric and is distancing himself from the trade-union movement.
