Siemens AG is to participate in the modernisation of Kazakhstan's telecom networks. It has signed a frame agreement with Kasachtelekom of Alma-Ata. Just under 10,000 km of telephone lines are to be installed in the next three years, connecting Kazakhstan to the international network that links Europe and Asia. Siemens will account for 85% of the DM 360mn project. The 15% share of Kasachtelekom involves the setting up of telephone connections between Chimkent, Kzyl-Orda, Aktyubinsk, Atyrau and Russia. *

Article Abstract:

Nesher Portland Cement, the cement monopoly in Israel, is to invest US$ 370mn to modernise two plants. US$ 200mn will be spend at the cement works in Haifa, US$ 170mn in Ramle. Both plants will be converted to 'dry process' instead of 'wet process'. The modernisation program will be completed by 2002, and it will increase capacity from 6.5mn tons to more 8mn tonnes. In 1997, Nesher's output was 5.92mn tons (-12%) and sales fell by 8% to 5.56mn tons.
