Rescuing the trade talks

The European Community needs to revise its Common Agricultural Policy if the latest round of talks on the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) are to be successful. The GATT's director-general, Arthur Dunkel has suggested stern measures that would lead to an agreement.

Getting better: EC farm policy

The EC member nation's agricultural ministers agreed on May 21, 1992 to reduce the farm subsidies mandated by Europe's Common Agricultural Policy. The reforms will bring about lower food prices, and may restore momentum to the failing Uruguay Round of GATT negotiations.
