Return of the natives: refugee exodus from Pakistani camps is on
Article Abstract:
Thousands of Afghan refugees are beginning to leave camps in Pakistan to return to their country after the defeat of the Najibullah regime by mujaheddin rebels. Some 6,000 Afghans go through the border at Torkham everyday. Since Jan 1992, close to 600,000 Afghan refugees had already been repatriated from Pakistan refugee camps which held some 2.7 million people. The massive repatriation has relieved the Pakistani government which feared that the Afghanistan war would make the refugees a permanent reality in the Northwest Frontier Province.

Political tremors
Article Abstract:
The earthquake of Sep 30, 1993 has inspired a reevaluation of building and development plans for southern and central India. The quake occurred on the Deccan plateau, killing over 9,500 people in villages. One cause of death was the style of construction in the villages, and recriminations are arising about a large village that should have been relocated to a safer location. Dam projects are also being reevaluated.
