Returnees to HK jobs drop 23%
Article Abstract:
The Hong Kong Institute of Human Resource conducted a survey with 148 companies. The findings are as follow 1) 60% of the companies hired 5-99 staff, 13.5% between 100 and 199, and 27% over 200 staff. 2) The number of HK people returning from overseas to work fell 23%. 3) The emigration rate of total workforce also fell to 0.54% . 4) More companies hired new immigrants from China. Most of them are low education with annual earning of at least HK$50,000. 5) 1,056 expatriates employed. About 80% of them were men aged from 25-39. 62% worked in management position with annual salary of at least HK$400,000. *

arnhold profit drops 40% as property sector slumps

Arnhold Holdings, building materials and engineering equipment distributor and manufacturer, reported its turnover down 0.7% to HK$405.52 mn with net profit dropping 40.66% to HK$11.04 mn in the first half 1998. The mainland market saw loss to HK$5 mn which shared a 14% of the group's sales. The adverse result was attributed to the turndown of property market and deduction of property sales. during the period. The company expected that a 10% growth in turnover in the full year 1998. *
