Rewriting the history of modernism
Article Abstract:
The Modernist exhibition, L'informe: mode d'emploi, at the Centre Pompidou in Paris has been put together by curator Rosalind Krauss to underline her belief that Modernism is about the transgression of its own formal limits. The exhibition includes both major and less well-known works, and comes in four sections, each of which is intended to challenge an important tenet of Modernism.

Spanish writers have only recently shown an inclination to depict the events of Spain's Civil War, even though the war is now more than half a century in the past. Two of the more noteworthy works on war-related themes are Camilo Jose Cela's 'La Colmena' and Antonio Munoz Molina's 'El Jinete Polaco.'

The International Monetary Fund predicts an economic recovery for all large industrial nations in 1993. It cautions the US against a short-term stimulus and recommends larger budget reduction goals. Recommendations for other countries and inflation forecasts are given.
