Celebration of spirit

Article Abstract:

A great deal of planning was undertaken in the run-up to the Year of the Philippine Centennial in 1998. The National Centennial Commission has called on Filipinos both to reflect on the past and to consider how to grasp opportunities set to arise in the next 100 years. The celebrations will not reject the country's colonial legacy, and no attempt will be made to blame all the Philippines' current difficulties on its colonial past. Strong emphasis is being placed on boosting pride in the country's history and kindling a collective vision.
