The French rail network, aside from being one of the country's national pride, has also been a very important component of France's infrastructure. One of the fastest trains in the world, the Train a Grand Vitesse (TGV) has facilitated travel all around the country. The TGV, which is run on special tracks, can travel up to 180 miles per hour, thereby cutting travel time to half of what it will take a regular train. Hence the advent of lines linking one province to another. The TGV is currently being exported to the United States.

Air France, an airline completely controlled by the socialist government, is the leading carrier in France. Forty-three per cent of the volume traffic into and out of France belongs to the carrier. One of the reasons why the carrier continues to be the country's number one carrier is the fact that it mostly serves international routes. This strategy brings down competition. After heavy years of heavy losses, Air France recently underwent a major restructuring to lessen the company's debt burden.
