The Standards of Conduct in Public Life committee contains both Roundheads who are examining the reality of UK political ethics and Cavaliers who are focusing on perception. The current ethical crisis may be temporary, but public concern is serious and reforms are needed.

Magistrate Antonio Di Pietro is considered a hero for his prosecution of the politically corrupt, but many judges have been accused of psychologically torturing confessions out of prisoners. Several prisoners held in 'preventive custody' have committed suicide.
