Japanese banks are selling foreign assets to raise capital needed in Japan. Portfolios of Chinese corporate loans are being offered for sale by Japanese banksSyndicated loans have been offered for sale and some are to real estate companies in Hong Kong, though most are to blue-chip enterprises. Japanese banks have to comply with capital adequacy standards and the need less capital if they make these sales. The departure of Japanese banks could mean a gap in service provision that cannot be filled by other banks.
