CALL RATES CLOSE LOWER AT 5.5%

The inter-bank call money market saw call rates close lower at 5-5.5 percent on March 26, 1999. There was surplus liquidity in the market. The call rates opened at 6.75-7.10 percent and closed at about 5 percent. The Reuter Mumbai inter-bank overnight average was 6.62 percent at close on March 26, 1999. The fall in call rates was due to the lack of proper estimation of the availability of funds in the market. (uh) (kvr)

CALL RATES CLOSE AT 8.9 PERCENT LEVELS
Article Abstract:
Call rates opened at nine percent and closed at 8.9 percent on January 19,1999 in the interbank call money market. The borrowings by dealers were between 8.9 to 8.95 percent to repay the nine percent refinance from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). There were no bids for the eight percent RBI fixed rate repo.
