SANGHI GROUP CO DEVELOPS HIGHWAY AUTOMATION SYSTEM
Article Abstract:
Sparsh Communications Ltd (SCL) of the Sanghi group has developed a Highway Automation System (HAS) to tackle the problems faced by the transport industry in India. The transport industry faces problems like missing trucks and goods, unauthorised trips and delay in reaching destination. HAS will network 32,000 km of major national and state highways in India to monitor the movement of trucks and goods. HAS will help reduce phone bills, turnaround time and fuel costs of transport companies. The group has set up 250 kiosks and another 100 kiosks will be set up in the next two months. The kiosks which will be set up at every 50 km will be equipped with V-SAT connection, computer, fax machine, telephone and e-mail. The system works on radio frequency. The kiosks will be connected through V-sat to the main server. Trucks registered with SCL will have an electronic monitoring device with a code number with which the kiosks will monitor the movement of the truck. The information will be transmitted to all kiosks across India. The trucks will also have a two way communication alert and a distress signal switch. (rk)(vr)

HCL INFOSYSTEMS TO ENTER PACKAGED SOFTWARE BUSINESS

HCL Infosystems Ltd has entered the packaged software business with a product called HCL Accountant. The package is priced at Rs12,990 and is a comprehensive, windows-based accounting package for bookkeeping and financial analysis. It is available in a single-user version and comes with a self learning kit, that includes a CD-ROM. The product has been developed at the company's ISO 9001 certified facility at Chennai. The company hopes to capture a 25 percent share of the domestic accounting and auditing market. The company has set up an Infosoft Group to cater to its new business of developing and marketing packaged software. (khr)

SATYAM DEVELOPS METHODOLOGY TO UNDERTAKE EURO CONVERSION

Satyam Computer Services Ltd (SCSL) of Hyderabad, an information technology company, has developed EMerge, a new 4-phase methodology. The methodology will be launched in early August 1998. It will take up Euro conversion. SCSL plans to target the methodology at financial, manufacturing and retailing industries connected with the Euro currency.
