SAP's third-quarter net falls on weak sales; group scrambles to catch up with e-commerce wave
Article Abstract:
SAP AG posted a 64% decrease in third-quarter net income to Euro45 million ($48.7 million) as sales in the quarter increased 7%, to Euro1.12 billion. This is well under the 20% sales increase expected by many analysts. The millennium bug was one of the reasons for SAP's and other business-management software companies' poor postings, but SAP sales and profit growth have also been affected by the transformation toward corporate information systems that look like the Internet, and away from "client-server" designs.
