SARGOD PLANTATIONS EYEING MAC'S COFFEE HOLDINGS
Article Abstract:
Sargod Plantations and Rural Industries (SPRI) of Chikmagalur is to acquire a major portion of the MAC group's coffee holdings in Karnataka. It may even sell its estate in Tamil Nadu to fund the acquisition. The MAC group's estates in Karnataka account for about two-thirds of India's coffee crop. SPRI acquired the 2,900 acre Shantawerry Estate in Chikamagalur from the Kotharis in 1997. It also acquired the 500 acre Plenty Valley Estate in Coimbatore from the Dhanuka group. SPRI is estimated to have around 5,000 acres under coffee cultivation. (khr)

MAC AGRO DEFERS SALE OF COFFEE ESTATES

MAC Agro Industries Ltd (MAIL) of the MA Chidambaram group has shelved its plan to sell 1,881 acres of its coffee estates at Chikmagalur in Karnataka due to depressed market conditions. MAIL plans to merge with South India Corporation (Agencies) Ltd (Sical). The swap ratio for the merger has been fixed at one equity share of Sical for every three equity shares of MAIL. MAIL has a paid up capital of Rs13.65 crore while Sical has a paid up capital of Rs25.25 crore. (gs)
