Shri Shakti LPG Ltd has a 24 percent share of the private liquefied petroleum gas market. The company operates in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa and claims to have 250,000 connections. It plans to set up an LPG terminal at the New Mangalore port in a joint venture with Amoco of the US. Its bottling unit at Manali near Chennai has started commercial operations. The company posted a net loss of Rs9.3 million in 1996-97 against a net loss of Rs20.5 million in 1995-96. It plans to launch LPG for alternate usage in automobiles, water heaters and generators. SHRI SHAKTI LAUNCHES LPG-BASED HEATER

Shri Shakti LPG, the biggest private sector parallel marketer of liquefied petroleum gas in India, has introduced an LPG-based instant water heater at Chennai on November 11, 1998. The water heater, which has been developed by Fagor Electrodomestics of Spain, will be marketed in South India where the company has a strong marketing network. (khr)
