SIDBI MULLS VENTURE CAPITAL FUND FOR CALCUTTA IT INDUSTRY

Small Industries Development Bank of India (Sidbi) plans to launch a software venture capital fund in Calcutta for local entrepreneurs in the information technology sector. A separate cell is to be set up in the Calcutta office of Sidbi. The corpus of the fund will be decided shortly. Sidbi has sanctioned a term loan of Rs35 lakh to a software company in Calcutta. It is planning to set up software venture capital funds in Chennai and Bangalore. (rk)

Gujarat Venture Finance Ltd (GVFL) has launched its third fund called GVCF Software/SSI Fund which has a target corpus of Rs40 crore. The Small Industries Bank of India has committed Rs20 crore to the corpus of the fund, which will concentrate on Information Technology and Software Companies as well as companies in the small scale sector. GVFL earned a net profit of Rs41.79 lakh on an income of Rs209.85 lakh in 1997-98. (khr)

Small Industries Development Bank of India (Sidbi) proposes to set up two venture capital funds. The funds will have a corpus of Rs40 crore each and will fund bio-tech and agro processing units. Small Industries Development Bank of India plans to contribute 50 percent of the corpus. Small Industries Development Bank of India plans to mobilise 50 percent of the corpus from the Government of India. (ag)
