SOFTWARE ASKS FOR MORE AS HARDWARE KEEPS WISHING
Article Abstract:
The Rs7,000-crore Indian software industry which is growing at a compounded annual growth rate(CAGR) of 50 percent for the past five years wishes that the Indian Government had done something to promote and market Indian software abroad. The hardware industry had been asking the government for 100 percent depreciation on personal computers (Pcs) every two years which would encourage users to buy equipment legally. It has also failed to address stock option pricing for listed Indian companies. The hardware industry which is growing at a CAGR of over 40 percent is likely to be affected by five percent limit on modified value added tax (Modvat). Reduction of duty on certain components may nullify the eight percent duty on imports. (uh)
