SIV Industries Ltd, a viscose manufacturing company at Coimbatore, has incurred a net loss of Rs88.60 crore for 1997- 98 compared to a net loss of Rs31.64 crore in 1996-97. The company's poor performance is attributed to labour ad environmental problems which resulted in prolonged closure of fibre manufacturing plants. SISCOL Q3 LOSS MOUNTS TO Rs23.25 CRORE

Southern Iron and Steel Company Ltd (Siscol) has posted a net loss of Rs23.25 crore for the nine months ended December 1998 (Rs15.34 crore net loss for nine months ended December 1997). Its net sales is Rs19.88 crore (Rs41.55 crore). Its total expenditure declined to Rs24.10 crore (Rs39.98 crore). Its interest cost worked out to Rs12.57 crore (Rs9.77 crore). For the third quarter of 1998-99, it has posted a net loss of Rs8.95 crore on a net sales of Rs4.61 crore. (rk)(m)

SEARLE Q1 SALES UP TO Rs88 CR

Searle (India) has posted sales of Rs88 crore for the first four months of 1998-99. It had declared sales of Rs211.45 crore in 1997-98 against Rs195.72 crore in 1996-97. The RPG group acquired a 37 percent stake of GD Searle of the US in Searle (India) in 1993. Searle (India) produces eight products, including Equal, an artificial sweetener and antidiarrhoeal Lomotil, under licence from Monsanto's GD Searle. The licence is to expire in December 1998. (khr)
