Guinea's electricity company, Sogel, had an installed power of 149.5 megawatt hours in 1997, compared with 104.6 megawatt hours in 1996. This rise reflects starting up of the Tombo II and Tombo IV. The production of electricity has increased steadily since 1995. it rose from 281.721 gigawatt hours in 1995 to 343.109 gigawatt hours in 1997. This energy comes from thermal and hydroelectric power stations. The Tombo I, II, III, and IV thermal power stations, have an installed power of 80 megawatts. The hydroelectric power station have 47 megawatts of power. Sogel wants to add improved distribution to its improved distribution. It has a network of 501.45 kilometres, part of which must be renovated. The state controls 33.4% of Sogel through Enelgui and a group of shareholders, including EDF International, Saur International, and Hydro-Qu bec International, controls 66.6%; it has a mandate for production, transport, and distribution of electricity in Guinea.

The Rural Electrification Board has issued an invitation to tender for the construction of three 10 megawatt power stations in Build, Operate and Own (BOO) in Bangladesh: Dacca PBS-1, Narsingdi PBS 1, and Comilla PBS-1. Candidates may order the prequalification form from the French Trade Commission in for US$ 2,500. The candidature must be submitted by 7 September 1998. Electricite du Liban has issued an invitation to tender for the operation and maintenance of two combined cycle electrical power stations located at Deir Amar and Zahrani. They have a total capacity of 435 megawatts. This contract is co-financed by the World Bank. The applications must be submitted on 5 January 2000.
