SOROS TO TAKE 40% IN OSWAL UREA PLANT
Article Abstract:
The Quantum Group of Mr George Soros is to acquire a 40 percent stake in the proposed Rs17000 crore urea plant of Oswal Asia Fertilisers Ltd. Frupp Uhde of Germany is also acquiring a 20 percent stake in the project, which is to come up at Sangrur in Punjab. The unit is to have a capacity of eight lakh tonnes per annum. Oswal will hold a 25 percent stake in the project of which 10 percent will later be sold to financial institutions. The Quantum Group is negotiating with the Industrial Development Bank of India and the State Bank of India to arrange loans for the project. (khr)

OSWAL TO PUMP Rs5,150 INTO COAL-BASED UREA PLANT
Article Abstract:
Oswal Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd (OCFL) plans to invest Rs5,150 crore to set up a coal based urea plant at Talcher, Orissa. The coal gasification technology for the project will be sourced from Texaco, US. The urea/ammonia facility will have a capacity of 2.1 million tonnes per annum. The project is expected to be completed by December 2001 AD. It will have a debt-equity ratio of 2:1. The urea/ammonia project is expected to record a turnover of Rs2,050 crore and a cash profit of Rs930 crore at 100 percent capacity utilisation. (rk)

OSWAL AGRO TO DIVERSIFY

Abhey Oswal group's Oswal Agro Mills Ltd (OAML) plans to set up a 700,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) ammonia plant at a cost of Rs1,000 crore to Rs1,300 crore. It plans to spend Rs400 crore on commercial shipping line and Rs252 crore on marine and material handling complex. The bulk carriers will supply imported rock phosphate, sulphur and ammonia to the di-ammonium phosphate plant of Oswal Chemicals and Fertilisers Ltd at Paradeep. It has taken up the feasibility study for coal and gas as fuel for its ammonia plant. (rk)
