Sudarshan Chemicals manufactures a wide range of organic and inorganic pigments, pesticides and intermediates. The company has a technical and financial collaboration with Dianippon Ink & Chemicals of Japan. For the nine months ended December 1998, Sudarshan Chemicals has posted a net profit of Rs5.75 crore. It has a high interest burden of Rs7.78 crore. Its outstanding loans stand at Rs55 crore. While 60 percent of the company's turnover comes from pigments, 31 percent comes from pesticides, six percent from intermediates and the rest from its other activities. A large portion of the company's production is exported through its collaborators' marketing network to Europe and Hong Kong. Sudarshan Chemicals has entered into an agreement with Radian Corporation of USA for treatment of solid waste, air pollution control and risk analysis. The speciality chemicals company, Colour-Chem Ltd (CCL) posted a net profit of Rs15.45 crore for the nine months ended December 1998. CCL's business has been restructured into six business divisions - fine chemicals, process and performance products, pigments & additives, cellulose ethers and polymerisates, master batches and surfactants. CCL has invested Rs4.5 crore in a vinyl acetate monomer unit at Raigad. The company has launched Mowicoll, a white adhesive for wood applications with technical know-how from Clariant GmBH of Germany. CCL manufactures dyes for Dystar India under a toll manufacturing agreement. The company implemented a voluntary retirement scheme during the quarter ended December 31, 1998. It has projected a total turnover of Rs275 crore-Rs280 crore and net profit of Rs19 crore for 1998-99. (tsm)(vr)
