SWITZERLAND: ASSMANN TAKES OVER SDP

Article Abstract:

The Swiss Allschwil-based shop and library fittings manufacturer SDP has been acquired 70% by Austrian state-controlled Assmann Ladenbau Leibnitz. The Swiss company used to be a marketing partner of Assmann, which generated a turnover of Sch 628mn in 1999 and is the leader on the Austrian shop fittings market. Moreover, it is active in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and eastern Europe. SDP had been acquired in 1993 by the managing director Peter Malama from then bankrupt Assmann. Now it employs 51 staff and generates an annual turnover of about SFr 10mn. It is to be expanded by the new owner.

SWITZERLAND: ROTEC ZUG BOUGHT BY VA STAHL

Article Abstract:

Voest-Alpine Stahl Linz of Austria is expanding as a supplier to the automotive industry by taking over Swiss Zug-based Rotec Zug AG. The latter produces precision steel pipes and processed products. The automotive industry takes 60% of the output. The Swiss company expects a turnover of about EUR 90mn in year 2000. Operating profit ratio is about 6.5%. VA expects steep increases in both sales and profits at Rotec in the next few years.

SWITZERLAND: POTENTIAL BUYERS OF FELDSCHLOSSCHEN

Article Abstract:

Heineken and Interbrew are said to be considering bidding for the beer and drinks division of Swiss Feldschlosschen-Hurlimann group. A spokeswoman for Brau Union does not rule out a bid by the big Austrian beer group either. She points out, however, that Brau Union's main focus will stay on central and eastern Europe. The acquisition of Feldschlosschen would mean the Austrian group's first move on west European foreign markets.
