Safer skies in India: airport launches new air-traffic controls
Article Abstract:
India no longer faces any threat from the dense winter fog that has disrupted air travel to and from New Delhi since mid-Dec 1998, with the inauguration of a new, state-of-the-art air traffic control system. The new air traffic controls promise to eliminate bureaucratic problems as they replace antiquated equipment that already poses danger to air safety. The system, which is part of a $90 million contract won by Raytheon Co, is expected to eventually allow airplanes to take off and land even in zero visibility as well as to prevent near-misses.
